The Ponds’ final days hinted at in The Eleventh Hour? Theories on what it could be

Alright, I don’t know about you, but for me I think its time Geekasms kicks off the ole countdown to the return of Doctor Who, and what better way to do that, than to have a post dedicated to speculations and theories based off a simple Matt Smith quote?!  To get everyone up to speed, the quote I’m referring to is this, and comes from an interview of Matt Smith:

“There’s something coming up in the final days of the Ponds that was in The Eleventh Hour…there’s a shot in that. [Moffat’s] been thinking about it that long. He always knew how she was going to… I’m saying too much already.”

035As if you needed a reason to go back and watch Doctor Who episodes, you now have an all new reason to go back and watch the Eleventh Hour.  Then again, for anyone that’s followed this site, we’ve already given you new excuses to go re-watch all of season 5 last year.

What we know about Amy and Rory’s final episode:  entitled:Bye-Bye Pond (I’m assuming this is the Doctor’s final line of the episode), the episode involves Weeping Angels in New York.  That’s all I’ll say on this post, if you want more potential spoilers, go check out this page.

So, with that, I’ve re-watched the Eleventh Hour, I’ve searched the interwebs, and here is a list of possible “clues” or shots that could be proven to be callbacks in reference to the Ponds’ final days.

Pinwheel/swing – Right after the opening credits, when we have the first outsides shot of Amy’s house, we’re shown a pinwheel, which is spinning and quickly speeds up before dying, we also see a swing slightly swinging, but none of the plants or anything else shows movement.  The only other time we see the swing moving, is when the TARDIS phases out towards the end of the episode after the Doctor ran off the Atraxi.  Could this be a hint that someone visits young Amy before the events of The Eleventh Hour?

The Clocks – While this might just be an editing mistake, or meant to be a reference to time being wibbly wobbly from the crack, the clocks that are shown, very clearly in the first portion of the episode, do not match.  While the clock that the Doctor barely makes it over rings and shows a time of 9:15, when the Doctor and young Amy are in the kitchen, the first time we see the clock on the wall, it reads 8:35, then progresses with 9:05, 9:35, and 11:30.

Amy’s Drawing – There is a shot that clearly shows that young Amy Pond has drawn a house burning. Foretelling?

The Door – When young Amy is packing her suitcase, and she runs back and forth, most people are familiar that the door at the end of the hall where prisoner zero is hiding, goes from being closed, to being open, but in the last shot, it also shows that the door has opened wider than the previous shot.

The Stairs – The stairs that go up to…the ceiling.  I realize people say that this is for an attic or something, but I don’t know, it’s easily explained as something logical, but isn’t that the times that Moffat screws with your mind?  Oh, and the first time you see Amy’s house, you can clearly see the upstairs is open. (Middle window, top floor)

The Fairytale – A few references to the name Amelia sounding like it’s from a fairytale.  Maybe we’re all wrong and Amy’s story ends like something out of a fairytale?

Duck Pond – For anyone looking for theories, everyone gravitates to the duck pond.  A dock pond with no ducks is simply what?  A Pond.  What if that is for Amy Pond?  A code that the Doctor was supposed to pick up on?  Even Amy asks “is it important?”

“This is too soon.  I’m not ready, not done yet” – I don’t know, this moment has always bugged me.  I realize most tie it to his regeneration, but it’s just random to me.

Rory’s ID Badge – Production mistake or something else?  We’ve seen that Rory and Amy grew up together, yes, but having a badge that was issues in 1990?  They purposely show the badge, so you’d assume that it would be check for mistakes prior to being used.  How this would work?  No clue.

Blue Light – People have talked about the blue light that shows up between the Doctor and Amy when she hands her the apple, but apparently Moffat has explained this away.

Rory Scared – when Rory and Amy exit the elevator on the second floor of the hospital, Rory glances behind him at something, but when he looks back towards Amy, he shakes his head like he forgot something.

Young Amy Waiting – towards the end of the episode we see young Amy sitting on her suitcase waiting for the Doctor, and looks up smiling at the sound of the TARDIS.  We’re led to believe its simply adult Amy dreaming, because it’s young Amy sitting and waiting in daylight, not at night, but what if its something more?

A mad man with a box – Simply a quote from the Doctor “Amy Pond, there’s something you better understand about me ‘cause it’s important, and one day your life may depend on it. I am definitely a mad man with a box.”  However it’s pointed out that Matt Smith said “a shot” which seems to point to something more like the pinwheel spinning and not a quote.

Amy Scared – at the end of the episode where Amy goes into the TARDIS for the first time. there’s one point where she leans back on the console and is looking around the room. The camera is pointed towards her face, so we can’t see what she’s looking at. She looks around with a sort of awe-struck smile, but then her eyes linger over something and her expression turns into a look of horror. She starts breathing really quickly and turns as if to get the Doctor’s attention, but as soon as she’s facing him she just asks, perfectly normally

What I don’t think it is:

Anything to do with Mrs. Angelo.  I realize that if you watched an edited version of the episode, it’s not clearly defined (thanks BBCA) but if you watch the entire episode, how it was meant to be (DVD, iTunes, Netflix) then Mrs. Angelo knowing the Doctor and calling him the raggedy doctor, is explained as her being familiar with Amy’s cartoon drawings, etc.

Rory as The Mastersimply said: no.

So what do you think it is?  What are your opinions?  Think I’m on the right track?  Completely insane?  Leave comments below and lets discuss.
